Watch out for these potholes in Potchefstroom

threestreamsmedia journalists are embarking on a project to map all unrepaired potholes in Potchefstroom as a community service to warn drivers in town. We will regularly identify all current potholes on the map below to help drivers avoid the most dangerous potholes.

The map is interactive, clicking on each pothole will reveal details about the pothole, and it is possible to zoom in and out on the map.

Research has shown that potholes also lead to increased fuel consumption and environmental pollution. Our map will help you plan routes around potholes to help save fuel and make a difference to carbon dioxide emissions.

We hope our map will encourage the municipality to repair the most dangerous potholes.

This is going to be an ongoing project, where we will update you about any potholes that have been repaired or any new potholes that have surfaced.

Please let us know of any updated information regarding potholes in town by email. Contact us at threestreamsmedia@gmail.com. Please add exact locations of potholes if you identify any that are not on our map.

  1. Hi, is there any way of rolling this out to other towns?

We really would benefit from it in Howick as nothing is done about the hundreds of potholes.

I recently had around R 40k damage to my car due to it.

  2. Robert, thank you for your comment, we would love to do something similar all over South Africa but time pressure and logistics will make that very hard. However, this map project is something people all over South Africa could quite easily copy, and then the maps could be published on local community platforms. Feel free to send us an email at threestreamsmedia@gmail.com for some pointers on how to start out.
