Hillsong Church to hold watch party in Potchefstroom

Hillsong will hold a watch party in Potchefstroom soon, with the service set to take place on the Sunday after recess, 10 April.

Hillsong Church is found in over 20 countries, from the United States all the way to South Africa. Here it is already in nine locations, including Cape Town, Pretoria, and Johannesburg. Hillsong made its way to Durban last year and now will also be starting small in Potchefstroom, with a watch party.

Ruber Do Nascimento, (28), who is a young adult coordinator and student pastor in Pretoria, said, “Hillsong is a church that believes in Jesus, a church that loves God and people. We have a heart for authentic worship and have a passion for the local church. Our mission is to see God’s kingdom established across the world.”

“We chose Potch because we are all about reaching communities. Our vision is to have a church home that people can be proud of right here in Potch. A place that people can call home. We are simply passionate about the next generation, whether you are a student, working adult, a young family and have years of wisdom to share, there is a place for you at Hillsong”, said do Nascimento.

Melissa Wurayayi, (21), who is studying towards her BA honours in environmental sociology at the North West University and a full-time member of the Wonderboom Hillsong Church and pioneering team leader, is excited about this livestream watch party, and encourages students and young adults to come and join the team.  “We are not only looking for Christians or experts but merely you as you are. I want my pioneer team to be a vessel and plant a community in Potch while spreading the word,” said Wurayayi.

Joining the pioneer team, alongside others,  is Aobakwe Tiro, (22), who is studying towards a BA in psychology with environmental management. Tiro said, “I grew up listening to Hillsong at home and I have always loved it and enjoyed the praise and worship. To be a part of the church is really exciting and I can’t wait to begin this joyous journey of planting seeds in the kingdom of God.”

Wurayayi has many plans for the pioneer team. The goal is to establish a group in Potch and as time goes by, to open to a larger group of people. “If you ask people about Hillsong, some know it as a brand and others know it as a band. It is more than just that, Hillsong is also a church and that is what I want people to know,” said Wurayayi
