Municipality repairs potholes while students are away

Potchefstroom has become somewhat of a ghost town since the start of the nationwide lockdown, and while some students have returned to their private accommodation, the municipality seems to have used this time to repair a few potholes. There are, however, more new potholes that drivers should be aware of.

A few weeks before the lockdown threestreamsmedia journalists embarked on a project to map all unrepaired potholes in Potchefstroom as a community service to warn drivers in town.

Some of our journalists are now back in Potchefstroom and able to update the map with new potholes and repaired potholes.

The map attracted wide attention, with many residents expressing anger at the danger posed by unrepaired potholes. It seems as if the municipality used the current quiet time in town to make some repairs.

The map is interactive, clicking on each pothole will reveal details about the pothole, and it is possible to zoom in and out on the map. The map shows repaired potholes in green, unrepaired big potholes in red and other potholes in orange.
