Covid-19 cases jump to 1170 in SA

The South African Department of Health on Friday announced that the number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa has jumped to 1170, and one person, a 48-year-old woman, has died because of the virus.

Earlier in the day the department indicated that a second woman (28) also died because of Covid-19, but this was later revised, as she apparently did not have the virus.

The 48-year-old woman was from the Western Cape. There have been 243 new cases in the country since Thursday, when there were 927 cases.

The South African government made access to its information site on the Coronavirus data free.

The country went into lockdown on Thursday at midnight to limit the spread of the virus.

The World Health Organisation has issued the advice below for limiting the spread of the virus.
