Die Dromers Mark expands after Covid restrictions are eased
Die Dromers Mark, a well-known market in Potchefstroom, was able to expand and allow entrance to more people this past weekend, thanks to the relaxation of Covid restrictions. The market was held at the Draaipunt and Anderland Venue, Welgegund Road, Boskop.
Anneri Cruywagen, the administrative and logistics manager of Die Dromers Mark, said relaxed Covid restrictions allowed the market to get rid of visiting time slots. “We allow more feet each day compared to previous markets.”
The first two Die Dromers Mark events were hosted at the same venue, but required visitors to buy tickets within certain time slots. This was done to ensure adherence to Covid-19 restrictions.
The North-West University (NWU) has encouraged students and employees to return to campus this year, leading to the resurfacing of several fun activities in and around Potchefstroom.
Die Dromers Mark also advertises live entertainment on its Instagram page. This past weekend Thys Bruwer, Jesse Harvey and Spoken Two were the performers.
Vasti van Staden (21), an NWU BA Honours in Advanced Corporate Communication student who has attended all the previous Die Dromer Mark events, indicated that this weekend’s market had more vendors than previous markets, with a broader variety of goods. When asked why she frequents the market, Van Staden said, “it is a great way to spend your weekend, to take a break from studies”.
Karlie Barnard (22), an NWU BSc Dietetics student who helped out at one of the stalls, said that the market “has a very good vibe” and that the food stalls are especially diverse and interesting.
I love the Dromersmark, such a great way to spend a weekend while supporting local entrepreneurs!
